In late June and early July, hundreds of South Coast residents attended public workshops hosted by the Marine Life Protection Act Initiative.
The goal of the meetings was to introduce ocean users and enthusiasts -- from fishermen to divers to bird watchers -- to the process that will create a series of Marine Protected Areas from Point Conception in Santa Barbara County south to the Mexico border.
