Creating a sustainable "blue" economy

Last week the Ventura Star ran an excellent op-ed by Marc Shargel, who provided many of the spectacular photos on CalOceans.org. He makes the case for how marine protected areas benefit all Californians:

"As a diver and underwater photographer, I've made a living from healthy, beautiful underwater habitats and wildlife. While my "use" of marine wildlife is unusual, my appreciation for it makes me a typical Californian. Anyone who has gone surfing, kayaking, whale watching, looked to sea over a romantic meal or taken snapshots on the beach has participated in the sustainable "blue" economy."
